My Choice for President

In my opinion, our country is long over-due for a woman President, Hispanic President and African-American President. That said, the best choice for President during these difficult times was Dennis Kucinich. Unfortunately, he has dropped his run for the White House in 2008.

Accordingly, I now support Barack Obama for President of the United States. I ask my friends, our visitors from Texas and Ohio, and everyone else, to join me in supporting Senator Obama. We desperately need real change and a new direction.

Congratulations to all the students, parents, and volunteers for the good competition and the great fun at South Central Service Cooperative Fall Chess Tournament.

The tournament was held at the St. Peter Community Center, marking the first time the event was held outside of Mankato. The facilities were outstanding and the annemities were great and provided good distractions between rounds for the participants.

SCSC Fall Tournament will be held at the St. Peter Community Center on November 3, 2007. The address for St. Peter Community Center is 600 S. 5th Street, St. Peter, Mn. Click on Map for directions.

Registrations are being accepted online at online registration. Rated and unrated sections; 4 rounds with game/30 time control. Entry fee is $20. For additional information download the Flyer or contact Bridget Serig, Tournament Coordinator at bserig@mnscsc.org.

In addition to sponsoring their annual Fall and Spring regional tournaments, SCSC will sponsor a statewide tournament on June 21-22, 2008. Stay tuned for further details in the coming months.

South Texas has some major tournaments coming up.

The 73rd Annual Southwest Open will take place in Brownsville on Labor Day weekend. Our own IM John Bartholomew has pre-registered, as well as GM Roman Dzindzichashvili, among others. You may get further information at official website.

The Susan Polgar Trifecta Events will also be held in Brownsville on January 18-20, 2008. USCF Chairperson GM Susan Polgar has announced details for the trifecta on her blog or you may get complete information at the official website.
